"The Man From UNCLE series started in black and white. One of the advantages of Season One was to be produced with great care by the series' true creator, Sam Rolfe. In addition, McCallum, Vaughn and Carroll clearly showed they were having much fun with their roles. There were well defined differences between Solo and Kuryakin. They didn’t show intimacy as “buddies” but solid loyalty to each other. They saved each other’s lives time and again - but never had a beer together. The series already starts with the two acting as partners. (The events prior to the partnership would only be explored in the 2015 film). That first season had funny situations, comic characters, and a general lightness. However, there were also menacing villains and situations of violence and even torture".
